Affärsverken Karlskrona AB

Background

The construction of the district heating network in Karlskrona began in 1990. Gullberna district heating plant is one of three plants owned by Affärsverken Karlskrona AB that was selected to be complemented with an ORC system. The investment in the ORC system has supported Affärsverken Karlskrona in its transition toward renewable green energy. The facility is now self-sufficient in electricity thanks to power generation from the ORC system, which also helps reduce the load on the local power grid.

Our solution

Againity delivered an automated ORC system with a maximum capacity of 355 kW of electricity production. The ORC system enables electricity generation from the hot water produced by the boiler. In total, the system is expected to produce 1,330 MWh annually, corresponding to 1,200 tonnes of CO₂ equivalents when replacing European marginal electricity.
