The company has invested in an ORC turbine powered by two biomass-fired hot water boilers with capacities of 8 MW and 5 MW, respectively. The investment not only reduces electricity and grid costs but also helps the company move toward greater climate neutrality.

Our solution

Againity delivered an automated ORC system with a maximum capacity of 315 kW of electricity production. The ORC system enables electricity generation from the hot water produced by the boilers. In total, the system is expected to produce 1,216 MWh annually, corresponding to emission savings of 194 tonnes of CO₂ equivalents when replacing European marginal electricity. Kannuksen Kaukolämpö Oy has chosen to sign a service agreement with Againity to ensure a long lifespan and minimal maintenance.

Owner: Kannuksen Kaukolämpö Oy
Location: Kannuksen, Finland
Existing boiler: 8 MW and 5 MW
Fuel: Bio fuel
Heat Production: 44,2 GWh/year
Boiler circuit temperature: 140 °C
District heating return temperature: 51 °C
Againity delivery: ORC AT200
Installed capacity: 315 kW
Expected electricity production:1216 MWh/year

Background The district heating plant in Kannus, owned by Kannuksen Kaukolämpö Oy, has chosen to invest in sustainable electricity production at the facility.
