Västerbergslagens Energi AB
Background
The district heating plant in Fagersta, Västerbergslagens Energi AB (VB Energi), is owned by Vattenfall, Ludvika Municipality, and Fagersta Municipality. The district heating network is approximately 30 km long and currently has around 360 connection points with a total connected capacity of 50 MW. To reduce operating costs and increase local baseload power in the area, VB Energi chose to invest in an ORC turbine at the Craboverket plant.
Our solution
Againity delivered an automated ORC system with a maximum capacity of 560 kW of electricity production. The ORC system enables electricity generation from the hot water produced by the boiler. In total, the system is expected to produce 2,315 MWh annually, corresponding to emission savings of 1,931 tonnes of CO₂ equivalents when replacing European marginal electricity.
