Gamleby heating plant, Sweden

Gamleby heating plant, Sweden

Background:

The heating plant in Gamleby is operated by Västervik Miljö och Energi AB, which in recent years has invested in a modernization of the heating plant to enable a completely fossil-free district heating production. In connection with this, Västervik Miljö och Energi chose to invest in an ORC turbine that is installed at a new wood chips-fired 5 MW hot water boiler. The investment not only contributes to reduced electricity costs and grid fees, but will also help the business reach its goal of becoming climate neutral by 2030.

Our solution:
Againity delivered an automated ORC system with a maximum capacity of 90 kW electricity production. The ORC system enables electricity production from the boiler’s hot water. In total, the system is expected to produce 350 MWh electricity annually, corresponding to annual emission savings of 315 tonnes of CO2 equivalents when substituting coal-based electricity. Västervik Miljö och Energi has chosen to sign a service agreement with Againity to ensure a long service life and minimal maintenance.
