Gullberna Heating Plant in Karlskrona, Sweden

Gullberna Heating Plant in Karlskrona, Sweden

Background:

The construction of the district heating network in Karlskrona began in year 1990. Gullberna heating plant is one of three district heating plants owned by Affärsverken Karlskrona AB, which has been chosen to be supplemented with an ORC system. The investment in the ORC system has helped Affärsverken Karlskrona in the transition to renewable green energy. The plant has now a self-sufficient electricity production with the ORC system, which, at the same time, helps to reduce the load on the local electricity grid.

Our solution:
Againity delivered an automated ORC system with a maximum capacity of 355 kW electricity production. The ORC system enables electricity production from the boiler’s hot water. In total, the system is expected to produce 1330 MWh annually, equivalent to 1200 tonnes of CO2 equivalents when substituting coal-based electricity.
