Örkelljunga district heating plant orders 250 kW ORC

With an Againity ORC turbine the biofuel from local forests will be transformed into green electricity at Örkeljunga heating plant. The turbine’s capacity of 250 kW electricity corresponds to the average need of 440 villas or the effect of 18,000 m2 of solar PV panels, with the important difference that the turbine produces the most electricity in the winter when demand and spot prices are highest. Climate savings correspond to more than 1000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent per year when replacing European marginal electricity.

We are happy both to be able to make a financially good investment, for the environmental gains and not least to be part of leading the development forward,” says Stefan Jacobsson, CEO of Örkelljunga Fjärrvärmeverk AB. ”The owners, board and management are all united behind the investment decision.

Örkelljunga district heating plant has two wood chip boilers of 7 and 3.5 MW that together produce around 35 GWh of heat per year. The ORC turbine will be installed in autumn 2018 and will be Againity’s seventh installation in Sweden.

We are pleased to get the opportunitiy to deliver a 250 kW ORC to Örkelljunga district heating plant,” says David Frykerås, CEO of Againity AB. ”It’s great to see that several district heating plant invests in ORC technology after we have now had a number of machines in operation that demonstrated high availability and stable production.

ORC to Solör Bioenenergi at Hörby district heating plant

Rindi Syd AB, part of Solör Bioenergi Group, invests in an ORC turbine from Againity to produce green electricity at Hörby heating plant. With the ORC turbine, parts of the hot water from the wood chip boiler will be converted to electricity for local consumption at the heating plant.

We see Againity’s ORC solutions as an interesting alternative where more traditional ORC suppliers and steam turbines do not fit for applications with existing heating plants primarily designed for heat deliveries, says Sten Bergman, Technical Manager at Solör Bioenergi. We expect approximately 400 MWh of electricity production from the Hörby plant, which covers our own needs and gives us a great opportunity to evaluate the potential of the technology.

The ORC turbine at Hörby’s heating plant will be installed in the fall of 2018 and will be Againity’s sixth installation in Sweden. Solör Bioenergi today supplies district heating in 43 locations where Hörby becomes the first heating plant to install an ORC turbine.

Againity thanks for the opportunity to install an ORC turbine at Hörby’s heating plant, and welcomes that also private actors have now opened their eyes to local-produced electricity on heating plants, says David Frykerås, CEO and founder of Againity.

Sten Bergman, Technical Manager of Solör Bioenergi, and David Frykerås, CEO of Againity, will transform Hörby’s heating plant to a combined heat and power plant by installing the Againity ORC turbine.

Againity nominated by WWF to Climate Solver 2018!

The World Nature Fund has appointed Againity one of the companies whose climate benefits are among the largest among Nordic startups at the moment.

The purpose of the Climate Solver Award is to pay attention to innovations that can benefit to the world’s climate while growing and providing export revenue and growth. More info (inn Swedish) can be found here.

We are proud and honored for the nomination and look forward to continuing our work for a greener energy system!

The magazine Bioenergi writes about ORC at heating plant

ORC on sewage treatment plants is highlighted in the newspaper NT

Againity and Norrköping Water and Waste (Nodra) have jointly developed a new process step that utilizes all biogas that is left at the municipality’s largest wastewater treatment plant.

When the wastewater is purified, methane gas is formed which is converted into biogas. This gas drives Norrköping city buses. But since the purification plant has produced more gas than has been requested, it has literally been allowed a large amount of gas to go up in smoke at Slottshagen’s sewage plant in Norrköping.

– We did not think this was good, so we did an investigation on how to utilize the biogas, says Magnus Eliasson, Norrköping Water and Waste Operations Engineer. With technology from Againity, we have installed another step in our purification process that utilizes the energy in the biogas so now no longer a huge flame is visible from our chimneys.

The waste is over and Norrköping Water and Waste has now had the new plant in operation for two months. What was previously a residual product is now converted into electricity and heat used to operate the treatment plant.

The technology lies at the forefront of innovative solutions in the water and energy industry and the plant, nicely encapsulated in a container, has aroused great interest. Norrköping Water and Waste and supplier David Frykerås have already had about 30 study visits at the plant during the autumn and winter.

Both public and private players have been here to look, says David Frykerås, CEO Againity. Those who traveled the longest to see the facility are probably a delegation who came all the way from Colombia.
